The Griswold City Council met in regular session at City Hall. Mayor Pro-tem Shields called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Council present: Wyman, Bergstrom, Rink. Absent: Mayor Putnam, Carlisle.
Motion by Wyman to approve the agenda with the removal of items 5 a & b under old business; seconded by Rink. Approved 4-0.
Motion by Wyman to approve the following items under the Consent Agenda:
a. Claims.
Seconded by Bergstrom. Approved 4-0.
Water Department. No report given.
Community Building. Manager Shiona Putnam submitted a written report. Requested approval to have carpets cleaned. Motion by Rink to have Service Master of Atlantic clean the carpets; seconded by Bergstrom. Approved 4-0.
Street closing request-Corn Boil/Fun Run. Motion by Rink to approve closing Whitney Street between Maple & Park St. on Saturday, August 9th for the Fun Run and Corn Boil; seconded by Bergstrom. Approved 4-0.
Jetting/Televising of Sanitary Sewer lines. Matter was set aside to the next meeting in order to obtain another cost estimate.
Sanitary Sewer repairs. Matter was set aside.
907 2nd St. clean up. Shields reported he has contacted several sanitation companies. At this time only one has responded. He feels the city can hire a company to haul off the debris for around $300 with the landfill fees being $80 per ton and would like the council to authorize spending up to that amount so when he talks to the sanitation companies, he can go ahead and have them get started. Motion by Rink to authorize spending up to $300 for sanitation services and pay $80 per ton for landfill fees; seconded by Bergstrom. Wyman questioned who will be doing the clean up. Shields said volunteers would be doing the work, but they would need the city backhoe to knock down the garage. Motion approved 4-0.
Cahoy Well and Pump Services. Tom McLaren of Cahoy Pump reviewed the inspection reports for the three well houses. He said that well house #5 needs to be rehabilitated and reviewed their proposal for the work. Council stated they would like to see another cost estimate and directed Kevin and Dawn to prepare a RFP for the work. Estimates will be considered at the next meeting.
Public Comments. Jerry Kline of 201 7th St. discussed the flooding problems on 7th & Scott St. He asked that the council put that area on the priority list for televising and jetting.
Robert Patterson asked where the city is at regarding the intersection of 2nd & Fremont St. City is still waiting for the report from JEO.
Vernon Brawdy asked which streets were left on the sump pump inspections and what is happening with the Law Enforcement. Council did not know which streets are left on the inspections and they expect Sheriff Bill Sage to make an announcement regarding the new officer in the near future. As of July 1st, the city is receiving 40 hours of coverage. Mr. Brawdy said Madison and Harrison Streets need to be patrolled.
Robin Drake, representing the Library Board gave an update on the roof & gutter repairs.
Council Comments. Wyman said he would like a structural engineer to look at the old Griswold American and current bank building. Robin Drake said now that they have a firm commitment from Rolling Hills, they will be contacting an engineer to look at the buildings.
Shields reported on the court hearings for the nuisance citations.
Motion by Wyman to adjourn the meeting at 7:03 p.m.; second by Bergstrom. Approved 4-0.
